Forecasted Failure Possibilities
Front-End Particulate / Colloidal Fouling
Horizon: ~30 days
Suspended solids, silt, and colloidal iron/aluminum compounds accumulate on the lead elements of Stage 1, blinding the active membrane surface and restricting feed-channel flow.
Tail-End Mineral Scaling (Stage 2/3)
Horizon: ~45 days
Elevated recovery increases mineral concentration beyond solubility limits in the concentrate stream. Without sufficient active polymer scale inhibitor, calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and sulfate crystals precipitate onto tail-end membrane spacer grids.
Biological Slime & Biofouling Risk
Horizon: ~18 days
Microorganisms attach to feed spacer channels, secreting Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS) that create a hydraulic biofilm barrier across the entire skid.
Membrane Oxidation Risk (Chlorine / ORP)
Horizon: ~45 days
Polyamide RO membranes cannot tolerate free chlorine (> 0.1 ppm) or high ORP (> 250 mV). Chlorine cleaves polymer amide bonds, permanently degrading salt rejection and creating irreversible leaks.
